Herb Ritts: Genius of light.

May 15th, 2011

While thumbing through the images at http://www.danzigerprojects.com/exhibitions/2011_5_the-kate-moss-portfolio-and-ot/from the New York gallery Danziger Projects that is celebrating the opening of “The Kate Moss Portfolio and Other Stories”, I stumbled across the work of Herb Ritts. I have seen many of the images before, and recognize the name, but an suddenly inspired by the power of his work. Here are a few examples. Geometric Ceramics

I came across this cup and saucer on http://www.houseofbrinson.com/ and it reminded me of how everything has been done, no matter how much of a pioneer you think you are. The Pottery Making Illustrated cover is from July/Aug 2010. The cup is from an unknown date, the color and composition of the photograph however feels so Dutch still life it hurts.

Garlic, how I love thee.

May 8th, 2011

A few worship images of garlic, and an interesting Plum color scheme. I would love to have a Study/Reading room someday that uses theses colors. Any room for that matter. All images taken from the amazing bloggging talent found at:http://www.houseofbrinson.com/

Awwwwe!

Obvious to anyone who has ever been on the internet, or pet a puppy (hopefully you have done both), is the huge appeal of baby animals to most of the population. That said. The fashion mainstream has gotten wind of this fact, and in addition to attractive women, another obvious attention grabber, they are using baby animals to sell cloths. Genius, if a little slow on the uptake. Here are some great examples: Sasha Pivovorova for Free People, with a baby tiger. Anja Rubik, for Apart Jewelry, with a kangaroo. Amanda Seyfried, in this months ELLE with a baby lamb (obviously Jesus ;) . Lastly the winning image for Americas next top model, featuring a baby Jaguar. It is all very silly, but I admit, gets my attention.

What a good idea. Love the twine wrap and the wood firing. I no longer wood fire, but damn I love that surface. 7710276_R91eT8KT_b

This reminds me of my thesis show. I still love ladders and the metaphors they hold. Heavy stuff. 646014_3JrCQLXA_b
